The Food Pantry needs the following items: canned pasta with sauce, canned fruit, syrup, rice, tuna, pancake mix, dessert items, small cans of soup, small boxes of potatoes.

Pastor Mark will be out of town from this afternoon through November 1. If you need pastoral care during the week, please contact Rev. Nick Bufano, pastor at Jarrettsville and Ayers Chapel UMCs.

Next Sunday is All Saints’ Sunday. If you would like to include in our prayers relatives, friends, colleagues, or neighbors who have died in the last year, please submit their names to Pastor Mark by Thursday, October 30.

Samaritan’s Purse collects shoeboxes for children in need filled with various items. Please participate in this great outreach ministry. Shoeboxes should be returned by November 16.

Adopt a family for Thanksgiving! The Church Council is asking each family, on its own or with another family, to consider adopting a Thanksgiving meal for a client from the Food Pantry. We will supply a list of items to purchase. All items must be brought to the church by November 16.

The food pantry continues to need restocking. The most needed items are: baked beans, kidney/other beans, rice, canned fruit, canned pasta, syrup, tuna, soup, rice, mashed potatoes, and desserts (e.g., Jell-O or pudding mixes).

Youth Group will be this Sunday, 10/19, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the youth room. All middle and high school youth are invited.

Christ Episcopal Church in Forest Hill is hosting its annual Pumpkin Festival Saturday, October 18, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Proceeds will support FCCAU, the organization that runs the Welcome One Shelter.

** God Provides Food Pantry Requests

Last week was a great week for our God Provides Food Pantry (https://centreumc.org/ministry-outreach/god-provides-food-pantry/) . We served a dozen families in one evening, which is great. But that also means we are low on supplies. We especially need: cereal, spaghetti, soup, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, tuna, and peanut butter and jelly. Please drop off supplies as you are able. If you can bring something by before Wednesday evening, that would be especially helpful.

I received a phone call from a fellow United Methodist from Dolphin Island, Alabama. She is coming to work in Delta, PA for 6-8 weeks and is searching for a place to stay. ** The UMC Connection

** Church beyond the local congregation
————————————————————

Last month we had our annual Charge Conference. Charge Conference is one of the “official” parts of The United Methodist Church’s connectional system. Although we United Methodists know that the local congregation is where disciples are made, we also hold believe that church is more than just what happens in the local setting. Events like Charge Conference remind us that we are part of the Body of Christ. They help us remember that there are Christians all over the world following Jesus with as much passion and excitement as we have at Centre each week.
On the other hand, the UMC connection is so much more than what happens at official events like Charge Conference. I was reminded of that the week before Charge Conference at our youth group kickoff event. I had invited the youth from one of our neighbor churches, Jarrettsville UMC, to join Centre’s youth for pizza, ice cream, and a devotion. Between the two churches, we had over twenty people (youth and adults) attend!
I know that this is not the only time this year we have joined with other area churches to make an event successful, but I hope that we will find ways of doing even more with Jarrettsville, William Watters, and other nearby congregations. We have much to gain by joining together with them as we serve Christ in our community.

Announcements

As you are able, please be sure you are giving regularly to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. This past quarter, money from the fund
-Provided assistance to a family escaping a dangerous domestic violence situation
-Helped keep the electricity on for two different families in our community
-Enabled a family to move out of a motel and into a home for the first time in ten months
Contributions placed in the collection plate by the communion rail in the sanctuary supports this Fund.

If you or a member of our church family you know has entered the hospital and you would like prayer for that person, please let Midge Davis know or email Jeanette Buterbaugh (** jjbuts@comcast.net (mailto:jjbuts@comcast.net)
). Be sure to respect the privacy of those who do not want details of their medical situation disclosed to the entire congregation.

Our next youth group meeting will be Sunday, October 19, from 5:00-6:30pm. All middle and high school youth are invited.

Our church has a longstanding relationship with the Welcome One Shelter. If you would like to contribute to this important outreach to the underhoused in our community, please make a check out to Centre with “Welcome One” in the “For” line. There are marked envelopes at the back of the sanctuary you may also use.

Speaking of the shelter, Christ Episcopal Church in Forest Hill will hold a Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 18 from 10 am-4 pm. There will be crafts, games, demonstrations, and activities for all ages. Proceeds from the Pumpkin Festival will benefit FCCAU (the organization that runs the Welcome One Shelter).
