** New Year’s Renewal

After the anticipation, excitement, and joy of the Advent and Christmas seasons, January can feel like a bit of a letdown, like we’ve lost our sense of direction. To go from building up to a single day to a more normal routine is not easy, and for many congregations January is a month to recover from December.
I hope we won’t fall into that trap here at Centre. January is the perfect time to reach out to our friends, neighbors, and family members. Many of them who never come to church the rest of the year attended services on Sundays in Advent or on Christmas Eve. Invite them back! Tell them about the wonderful ways God is at work at Centre throughout the year!
December 25 marked the beginning of the twelve days of Christmas. Come on January 4 and watch our children and youth tell the story of Christ’s birth in their pageant.
December was the last month of service for our 2014 leaders. Come celebrate their hard work on January 4. Our new leaders begin their 2015 term on January 1. Come on January 18 and bless their work in the coming year with your prayers and support.
In December we spent four weeks preparing for our Savior’s birth, thinking and talking about holiness. January is the perfect time to reaffirm our commitment to holy living. Come to our covenant renewal service on January 25, and commit this year to discipleship growth.
We have journeyed to the manger to see our Lord’s birth. Let us now walk with him as he calls us to follow wherever he goes.

*The Leadership Retreat, for all members of Church Council, SPRC/LLDC, and Trustees, is January 17^th at Centre from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
*If you have not picked up your offering envelopes for 2015, please do so after worship any Sunday this month.

Announcements
Monthly Prayer: Each month this year the entire congregation will be invited to unite in prayer for a single topic, opportunity, or concern that affects the whole church. Please make Centre’s monthly prayer part of your daily devotional time. This month, you are asked to pray for Centre’s new leadership team: pray for new members of the Church Council, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, and Trustees as they learn their roles; pray for graced speech and wise words as leaders meet together; pray for wise decisions as they act on behalf of the congregation. Please pray for your leaders each day this month.

Trustees will meet January 12 at 7:00 p.m. Monthly meetings on the first Monday will begin February 2.
Scripture readers and Communion servers are needed each Sunday. If you would like to assist in worship through these important roles, please contact either Pastor Mark or Nancy Martin.
Centre’s Directory needs to be updated. If your contact information has changed since the last directory was published, or if there was an error in that directory, please submit your correct contact information to Pastor Mark by January 25. You may submit your information by email or by placing a note card in the offering plate (be sure to write legibly!). Please include your home address, preferred phone number, and email address.
Our 150th Anniversary preparations are underway. Mark your calendars now for the weekend of September 27, when we will celebrate 150 years of ministry and worship in Forest Hill. If you would like to help plan the 150th anniversary festivities, please contact Pastor Mark, Sandy Barthel, or Jeff Smart.
The Youth Group will meet January 25 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Centre.
Pastor Mark will be away January 9-11 and 21-22.
There is a signup sheet for the Flower Chart at the back of the sanctuary. Please consider giving flowers in honor or memory of a loved one.
The February Newsletter Deadline is January 22.
Please plan to join in on the groundbreaking Daniel Plan simulcast outreach event being held Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 12:00pm-3:00pm ET in the Community Building at Centre UMC .
Rick Warren, Dr. Daniel Amen, Dr. Mark Hyman, and the Daniel Plan Wellness Faculty will teach us how improving our physical and spiritual health has a life-giving impact within churches, ministries, small groups and families. This step-by-step approach will equip us to incorporate healthy lifestyle choices in everyday life.
This premiere event will kick start 2015 with a focus on The Daniel Plan Essentials: Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus and Friends – life areas that all work together to restore and sustain our long-term health. You will walk away with a personal vision and turnkey tools to start creating a more healthy and energized you and church community.
The Daniel Plan offers practical solutions to improving our health physically, spiritually, relationally, and emotionally. Integrating these essentials can lead to a more vibrant life ultimately preparing each of us to live out our calling.
