Special Announcement: Ash Wednesday and the Beginning of Lent

Dear Friends in Christ,

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It is an important day in the life of the church, a day to remember that it is the mark of the cross that distinguishes Christians. I invite you to begin Lent this year by attending one of our three Ash Wednesday services: at 7 a.m., noon, and 7 p.m. on February 18. The services are offered to give everyone in the congregation the opportunity to begin Lent with by observing this day. The 7 a.m. service is especially intended for those who commute to work early and the noon service for those who cannot come early in the morning or stay out in the evening. Of course, you are welcome to attend any or all of the services that day.

As many of you are doubtless aware, the upcoming snowstorm may impact services for Ash Wednesday. Forecasts are always subject to change, but here is how we hope to handle the snow:

If Harford County schools are delayed Wednesday, we will cancel the 7 a.m. service, but morning Bible study, the noon service, and the 7 p.m. service will be held as scheduled.

If Harford County schools are closed Wednesday, all Wednesday events will be canceled. Instead, we will have services at 7 a.m., noon, and 7 p.m. this Thursday, February 19.

If Harford County schools are closed Wednesday and delayed Thursday, we will cancel the 7 a.m. service but hold the noon and 7 p.m. service on Thursday.

If Harford County schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday, all services will be canceled.

Please alert other members of the congregation who may not have Internet access to this plan. And please invite neighbors and friends to worship with us at one of these Ash Wednesday services.

Lent is a time for renewal and revival. I hope to see you Wednesday (or Thursday!) as we begin our first Lenten journey together.
