** Church beyond the local congregation

Last month we had our annual Charge Conference. Charge Conference is one of the “official” parts of The United Methodist Church’s connectional system. Although we United Methodists know that the local congregation is where disciples are made, we also hold believe that church is more than just what happens in the local setting. Events like Charge Conference remind us that we are part of the Body of Christ. They help us remember that there are Christians all over the world following Jesus with as much passion and excitement as we have at Centre each week.
On the other hand, the UMC connection is so much more than what happens at official events like Charge Conference. I was reminded of that the week before Charge Conference at our youth group kickoff event. I had invited the youth from one of our neighbor churches, Jarrettsville UMC, to join Centre’s youth for pizza, ice cream, and a devotion. Between the two churches, we had over twenty people (youth and adults) attend!
I know that this is not the only time this year we have joined with other area churches to make an event successful, but I hope that we will find ways of doing even more with Jarrettsville, William Watters, and other nearby congregations. We have much to gain by joining together with them as we serve Christ in our community.

Announcements
As you are able, please be sure you are giving regularly to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. This past quarter, money from the fund
-Provided assistance to a family escaping a dangerous domestic violence situation
-Helped keep the electricity on for two different families in our community
-Enabled a family to move out of a motel and into a home for the first time in ten months
Contributions placed in the collection plate by the communion rail in the sanctuary supports this Fund.
If you or a member of our church family you know has entered the hospital and you would like prayer for that person, please let Midge Davis know or email Jeanette Buterbaugh (** jjbuts@comcast.net (mailto:jjbuts@comcast.net)
). Be sure to respect the privacy of those who do not want details of their medical situation disclosed to the entire congregation.
Our next youth group meeting will be Sunday, October 19, from 5:00-6:30pm. All middle and high school youth are invited.

Our church has a longstanding relationship with the Welcome One Shelter. If you would like to contribute to this important outreach to the underhoused in our community, please make a check out to Centre with “Welcome One” in the “For” line. There are marked envelopes at the back of the sanctuary you may also use.
Speaking of the shelter, Christ Episcopal Church in Forest Hill will hold a Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 18 from 10 am-4 pm. There will be crafts, games, demonstrations, and activities for all ages. Proceeds from the Pumpkin Festival will benefit FCCAU (the organization that runs the Welcome One Shelter).
