Exciting Times
For a planning meeting, there was a lot of energy in the room. And at the latest 150^th Anniversary Committee group, I heard people saying over and over, “I’m excited about this. I’m really looking forward to the anniversary weekend. I can’t wait!” And they’re right to be excited: great plans for the Saturday fun day, a guest preacher, four returning former pastors, and great food for Sunday.
So I’m excited about the anniversary weekend, too, but that’s not all I’m looking forward to in September. This month we also kick off our regular Sunday Youth Group program. We begin another Sunday School year. I’m even looking forward to charge conference on September 15, when we lay the groundwork for the 2016 ministry year.
What about you? What excites you about Centre? I’ve been reading through the survey you took at the beginning of the summer, and I’ve been interested to see some of the things that motivate you and draw your passion. Many of you said that of everything about Centre, it is our people that makes you most excited.
That says a lot about who are as a congregation, about how close-knit we are, how little conflict there is, and how much we care for each other. But if you’re really excited about the people of Centre, then you know this is more than just having nice folks around. It’s about being the body of Christ, a gift that only God can give.
Whatever excites you about Centre, whether the people or an upcoming event or something else entirely, tell someone! Tell me, tell other people at Centre, and tell your neighbors, the grocery clerk, your mechanic—tell someone!
You never know how your excitement might catch on.

In Brief…
*The 150^th Anniversary Celebration weekend is September 26-27! Invite your friends, family, and neighbors to our Heritage Family Fun Day on Saturday from 1-4pm and our Celebration Worship Service on Sunday at 10am.
*September 13 is Rally Day! We will commission and bless our Sunday School teachers for the year and celebrate the gift of Christian education.
*September 13 is also our first week of Youth Group, 5-7pm.
*September 15 is Charge Conference at Emory UMC in Street.

Announcements
Monthly Prayer: Please make Centre’s monthly prayer part of your daily devotional time. This month, you are asked to pray for efforts to reach our neighbors through witness and service.
The 150^th Anniversary Celebration Weekend is September 26-27. On Saturday from 1-4pm we will have a Heritage Family Fun Day with activities, crafts, and a historical tour for all ages. On Sunday we will have a Celebration Worship Service at 10am followed by a community luncheon. The church is providing food, drinks, and dessert for the luncheon.
We need your help for the 150^th Anniversary Weekend!! Here are some ways you can help:
-Come to the Heritage Family Fun Day on Saturday and the Celebration Worship Service on Sunday. Wear red and white to the Heritage Family Fun Day.
-Bake cookies or brownies for the Heritage Family Fun Day. Put 2-3 cookies in small Ziploc bags to hand out as prizes and giveaways. Bring cookies to church the morning of September 26. See Hope Mainolfi for more information.
-Come to the Cleanup Day on September 19 from 9am-noon. There will be something for everyone to do that day as we take the final steps to beautify our grounds and buildings.
-Watch for signup sheets in September to serve as a greeter, usher, nursery worker, setup team member, cleanup team member, activity team member, or sanctuary decorator.
-Make visitors and guests feel welcome at the Celebration Worship Service by greeting them, catching them up on life at Centre, and inviting them to Bible Studies, Sunday School, and other church activities.
Charge Conference is September 15 at Emory UMC in Street. Please make plans to attend this celebration of the past year and some of our plans for 2016. The format at Emory UMC also allows us to hear from and get to know other United Methodist churches in Harford County. If you are on church council for 2015, please make every effort to be at charge conference.
Youth Group kicks off on September 13 from 5-7pm. Parents and youth should stay tuned for more details.
There will be a Cleanup Day on September 19 from 9am-noon. This will be a chance for us to get the buildings and grounds ready for the 150th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. There will something for everyone to do, so please plan to attend.
The Fellowship Lunch Workgroup will meet next on September 3. We will meet at 11:30am in the fellowship hall to enjoy meal and fellowship together. Following lunch we will work on small projects around the church. All are welcome! Please contact Sandy Barthel or Pastor Mark for more details.
Mt. Zion UMC in Bel Air is hosting a Benefit Concert on September 17 featuring the band Remedy Drive. The concert will benefit Samaritan Women, International Justice Mission, and Hannah’s Hope, all organizations that work to fight human trafficking. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at ** www.eventbrite.com (http://www.eventbrite.com/)

. The concert is at 7pm; doors open at 6pm.
September 13 is Rally Day. All Sunday Schools will meet at 11:00 in the sanctuary for a short time of singing and a message from Pastor Mark before dismissing to their rooms in the Sanctuary and Community Buildings.
The October Newsletter Deadline is September 24.
